Build stronger leaders, more capable teams and better workplaces with practical training designed for New Zealand organisations.

Epic People offers leadership and management training, professional development and personal development courses throughout New Zealand. Choose from scheduled live online courses, in-house workshops for your team, or customised training designed around your workplace.

Leadership and management workplace training courses

Being good at a job doesn’t automatically make someone good at leading people.

Our leadership and management training helps new, emerging and experienced leaders build the skills and confidence they need to lead people well. We focus on the situations managers face every day: setting expectations, giving feedback, managing performance, having difficult conversations, building trust and getting the best from their people.

Our leadership and management courses include:

    • Team leader development program: team leader training that is an 8-week program, with 2×75 minute online classrooms per week. Builds the essential skills of being a team leader.

    • A week in the life of a team leader: a customised, in-house training program for groups of team leaders who all work in the same department. Simulates a chaotic workweek and builds consensus on how different situations are managed in the workplace.

    • Social intelligence: Observing people to understand what makes them tick, and making small adjustments to the way you interact with others is a powerful skill. Navigate relationships within and outside your workplace, building trust, respect, and influence.

    • Managing poor performance: This training is designed to give managers the tools, confidence, and practical steps they need to handle poor performance effectively, fairly, and consistently.

    • Recruitment and selection skills: make the right hire, the first time. Learn how to run a stellar recruitment process, right from thinking about the job itself, writing a robust position description, designing the right interview questions, running the best possible interview and selection process, and letting unsuccessful candidates down with dignity.

Personal and professional development

Not all workplace development is about becoming a manager.

Our professional development and workplace wellbeing courses help people build skills that make a difference to how they work, communicate and respond to pressure. The emphasis is on understanding what is happening, then developing tools and techniques people can realistically use in their working lives.

    • Stress management: Helping your people stay calm and focused under pressure. Understanding stressors and individual responses to stress; building a personalised toolkit to manage stress ‘in the moment’ and build the skills for self-care and recovery.

    • Time management: Empowering teams to make the most of their day. Getting more done in less time. Learners walk away with a customised time management toolkit that considers their needs and the features of their job.

    • Resilience: Building the inner strength to bounce back from setbacks. Learn the science of resilience, and the relationship with a growth mindset and change agility.

    • Communication skills: cutting through the concept of ‘noise’ and why messages sent and received are misunderstood. Build skills like active listening, effective questioning, and writing in a concise way that ensures your message is impactful and received as intended.

Workplace training that works for your organisation

There isn’t one right way to deliver workplace training. The best option depends on who needs development, what you want to achieve and how many people you need to train.

Live online training

Our scheduled live online classrooms make professional workplace training accessible to individuals and organisations throughout New Zealand.

These aren’t self-paced e-learning courses. Participants learn with a facilitator in real time, with opportunities to discuss, ask questions, practise skills and learn from others.

In-house workplace training

Need to develop a group of people at the same time?

Many of our courses can be delivered exclusively for your organisation, either online or in person. In-house delivery also gives us greater opportunity to relate the learning to the situations your people encounter at work.

Customised training

Sometimes an off-the-shelf course isn’t the answer.

We can customise existing programmes or design workplace training around a particular capability, challenge or group of employees. Tell us what you’re trying to achieve and we’ll work with you to determine what your people need to learn — and how to make that learning stick.

Workplace training grounded in real-world experience

Epic People brings together more than 30 years of experience across human resources, learning and development, leadership development and employment relations.

That matters because workplace training shouldn’t exist in a vacuum.

We understand what happens after people leave the training room. Managers go back to busy teams. Employees go back to competing priorities. Good intentions collide with the realities of work.

That’s why our training focuses on turning concepts into behaviours, tools and actions people can actually use. We want participants to leave knowing not just what they should do differently, but how to do it.

Workplace training and leadership development bundles

Maybe you’re combining our training with other leadership development activities, like 360-degree feedback and psychometric assessments. Or you’d like to roll out several courses over six to 12 months. Ask us about a training plan subscription with payments spread out for the duration of your programme.
