Why this training matters
Why investing in advanced coaching skills delivers real organisational value
Once leaders have mastered the basics of coaching, the next step is being able to apply those skills confidently and effectively in any situation — from performance issues to career development conversations.
For the organisation
Advanced coaching skills help leaders build capability, not dependency. Instead of fixing problems for people, leaders develop confident, accountable teams who think critically, take ownership, and perform consistently — lifting engagement, retention, and long-term performance.
For the leader
Leaders gain the confidence and flexibility to handle complex or high-stakes conversations calmly and constructively. They learn when to challenge, when to support, and how to adapt their coaching approach to different people and situations — strengthening their influence and credibility.
For individuals
Team members gain clarity, confidence, and ownership of their performance and development. Coaching conversations become purposeful, supportive, and growth-focused, enabling people to take responsibility and move forward with intent.
This course helps leaders shift from solving problems to developing people who can think, act, and grow independently.
What you'll gain from this advanced coaching skills training
Give your managers the capability and confidence to create teams that are focused, connected, and performing at their best.

Why choose Epic People as your training course provider?
We believe that most people want to learn and grow in their roles. One of the most important determinants of how far people do grow in their role, is the level of support provided by their own manager. We’ve seen firsthand how building advanced coaching skills in managers can create an environment where everything thrives and high performing teams are built.
Our workshops are always highly practical. We walk through processes step by step, discovering tools, techniques, conversation starters, and process models that make it easier to create an environment of independence, and growth.

Courses that complement this training
Building high performing teams
Individual performance doesn’t exist in a vacuum. This training focuses on the team environment — trust, clarity, psychological safety and shared goals — that enables performance development programmes to succeed and sustain high performance over time.
Managing poor performance
This practical course helps managers confidently address underperformance early, fairly and lawfully. Your advanced coaching skills can help to turn an underperforming employee around, instead of having to manage them out of the business.
Creating and running performance development programs
A coaching culture should be supported by a robust performance development program. And the same is true in reverse: truly effective performance development programs need managers with sharp coaching skills.
Social intelligence training
Great coaching sessions rely on managers’ ability to read situations, adapt their communication, and respond appropriately to others. Social intelligence training builds awareness of how behaviour and interpersonal dynamics impact performance conversations, feedback, trust and engagement.
Course FAQ's
Here are some common questions about leadership advanced coaching skills for managers.
Is this course suitable for new managers?
No, there are other foundational skills that new managers should learn first. Before attending our Advanced Coaching Skills training, we recommend starting with Empowering Your Staff Using Coaching Skills first, as this advanced coaching skills course assumes familiarity with basic coaching concepts. Even better, if you’re new to management we suggest attending our 8-week team leader development program.
Do I need to know coaching models already?
A general understanding of coaching conversations is helpful, but more important is to be able to show and role model curiosity with well-honed active listening and strategic questioning skills. We’ll build on that by applying models such as GROW, OSCAR and PRACTICE.
I'm doing the team leader development program. Should I do this course?
This training is not part of our team leader development program, and we recommend that this advanced coaching skills workshop is done three to six months after completing the team leader development program.
Is this advanced coaching skills training relevant for NZ workplaces?
Yes! Our training is designed by us, not purchased from overseas. We know kiwi workplaces and have designed this training with that in mind.
